Douglas Mawson (1882–1958) was an Australian geologist and Antarctic explorer. He led the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–1914), during which he made significant scientific discoveries and mapped large parts of the continent. Mawson's survival of a harrowing solo journey after his team perished is legendary. He is considered one of the greatest figures in Antarctic exploration.
