Ludwig Leichhardt (1813–1848) was a German explorer and naturalist who led significant expeditions across Australia's interior. His most famous journey was from Moreton Bay to Port Essington in 1844–1845. Leichhardt mysteriously disappeared during an 1848 expedition, aiming to cross Australia from east to west, and his fate remains unknown.
